A Slave is one of a variety of inhabitants of Griddish. Each Slave is classified by their specific technical function on Griddish.

Description[]

Slaves are a classification of Griddishians who are tasked with the technical functions of Griddish. Although there are many classes of Slaves in Griddish, the Slipshot series is concerned with the following:

Mechanic[]

Mechanics manage and oversee the Vérkatrae primarily. Their role is maintenance and repair, deployment, and ongoing management. The management of the Vérkatrae extends to the Vars, to which they are deployed during a dismantlement project, as well as general Var maintenance. When a Var's matter is deconstructed and re-deployed, then it has undergone a dismantlement.

The tools that the Mechanics use are the Init Caster, the Perispike, and the Capsa Ungere. They also operate the Slipshot. Assisting Mechanic Class Slaves are the Vérkatrae, which have a tenuous relationship with the Slaves.

Bestiar[]

Bestiars are an extension of the Mechanic Class originally founded by Rive Amber. The role of the Bestiars is one of defense and attack, a warrior class whose purpose is to lead the war against the Engineer Class Citizens during the War of Ashen. They are trained in the use of the Plaxis Strand, which is a laser-like whip.

The Bestiars are also experts in all Mechanic Class skills and tools.

Admin[]

Admins are the administrative class of Slave in Griddish, overseeing the underlying technology that is used to manage Griddish primarily. This includes technology that manages atmosphere, organic growth, the general function of the dome, the Slipshot, as well as a host of other functions.

Primarily located in The Bastion, the technology center of Ashen Fissure, Admins manage Griddish technology from a centralized location, as opposed to Mechanics, who are primarily field technicians.

Psyche[]

Psyche classes are a sub class of Admins. Their primarily roll is medical and psychological, mostly applied to the Admin class. However, they are thoroughly capable of treating other Slave Classes as well.

Producer[]

Producers are the agriculture and production classes of Griddish. Producers are expert in food design and production, as well as agricultural methods and implementations.

Birth and Death[]

Slaves are born through a constant state of reincarnation. When a Slave dies, they are reunited with all other Slaves in the Tenddrome in a distributed state, where they lose their self identity and join the collective identity.

The funeral process of a deceased Slave involves the scattering and redistribution of the individual Slave's matter.

New Slaves are born from the dome of Griddish, delivered by a plasmic arc that delivers them to a surface bound collective. Their initial class is determined by the specific collective to which they were delivered.

Sexuality and Gender[]

Because Slaves do not reproduce sexually, it is uncertain if Slaves have romantic feelings towards each other, although the arrival of Cythiria in her teenage and young adult form belies some previous speculation on the matter.

Judith Merlon in Vol 2.0 suggest she has romantic feelings for Benj.

Slaves appear to have genders similar to Varlings.

Terminology[]

The use of the terms "Slave" is a reference to their early development when they were considered nodes directly connected to a centralized system known as the Tenddrome, where each node was a direct sub-node controlled by the highly centralized system. Over time, the Slaves evolved and they became nodes interconnected with each other inside the Tenddrome. The term Slave still remains in use.
