Jillian Crenshaw first appears in Vol 1.0 of the Slipshot saga. By Griddish standards, she is considered a Varling from Var 8, also known as Earth.

Description[]

Jillian is a college student at State University in San Francisco, California. She is a classmate of Fredrick Munchen. The two soon become close friends as they confront the arrival of the Mechanic Class Slaves, such as Opal Fremmitty and their Vérkatrae.

Jillian grew up in Salt Lake City, Utah[1], and is from a wealthy family. She dreams of starting a non-profit which will help vulnerable women and victims of domestic violence. She decided to study at a state university, despite her up bringing, because she believes that ivy league colleges do not need more of her social status.

As a child, Jillian recalls witnessing the sexual assault of a domestic staff member by her brother. Furthermore, her mother at the time defended her brother and decided not to support the affected staff member, and instead, belittled her publicly. That moment is what drives her to choose her calling in life. Her goal is eventually derailed by the arrival of the Mechanics and the threat they pose to Earth.[2]

Jillian is not able to see the Sleeper Class Vérkatrae as Fredrick is. However, she is supportive of Fredrick and is a stabilizing element to his recently tumultuous life.

Fredrick and Jillian grow closer one day when Fredrick is called to deliver a pizza from Temple Pizza where he works as an employee under Matere Songgaard and Betel Longshrew Piper. He accidentally meets her in Union Square in San Francisco, where she was stood up by her friends who were set to have a night on the town. Driving a Vespa scooter, he offers to take her home after he delivers this pizza. The recipient, it turns out, is one Opal Fremmitty.

Quotes[]

"From what I’ve seen, you’ve done a pretty piss poor job of handling stuff so far. I could go into a list, but I need to get Fredrick to a hospital."[3]

Jillian sighed. “I guess I’m a coward too, then.” She looked down at her empty cup of tea, her hands cupped around it, her back arched. Tendrils of red hair streamed down her cheek. Fredrick wanted to reach over and push them behind her ear. [4]

“She never intended to kill you, Fredrick. I think the other Mechanics are probably the same way.” [5]
