Betel Longshrew Piper is a former Engineer Class Citizen of Griddish. In the beginning of Slipshot Vol 1.0, she is parter to Matere Songgaard. The two operate a pizza restaurant named Temple Pizza in San Francisco's Tenderloin District.
Description[]
Betel is a former Engineer Class Citizen of Griddish and a former member of the Council of Engineer Class Citizens.
Philosophically, Betel does not agree with the current trajectory of the Council. Like Matere, she believes the time that the Engineers and Mechanics control the Vars using the Slipshot must come to an end. Because of this belief, she partners with Matere to fight Griddish forces from the Vars.
Appearance[]
Betel Longshrew Piper is 5' 6" tall. Living on Var 8, Earth, she wears practical clothes. As a former member of the Council, she wears the regalia that is appropriate to her station.
Personality[]
Betel is a stabilizing force in the chaotic life that she shares with Matere. She is a problem solver and has devised a number of hacks to Griddish tech that allow users not connected to the Tenddrome, e.g., all classes of Griddish Slaves, to initialize and utilize them.
Relationships[]
Betel is a close friend to Matere Songgaard. It is suggested by Vol 3.0 that the two are lovers, but had parted company for a time.
Fredrick Munchen works for her and Matere Songgaard, the owners of Temple Pizza.

Betel's primary alliances are with Matere Songgaard. She is also friendly with Var 8 Varlings Fredrick Munchen and Jillian Crenshaw.
Enemies[]
Betel's enemies are Opal Fremmitty, Rive Amber and Natty Mick, Mechanic Class Slaves from Griddish. In Vol 1.0, Betel's primary goal is to stop Opal Fremmitty from using the Vérkatrae to dismantle Var 8.
